Expanding Genocide to Include Gender Published on January 3, 2023

Did you know that gender is not currently included in the definition of genocide? According to the United Nations, genocide is an action intended to destroy a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. This includes killing, causing serious bodily or mental harm, deliberately inflicting on group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part, imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group, or forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
